Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) and hepatitis delta (HDV) are two complex liver diseases with serious consequences for patients. While AIH is characterized by a misguided immune reaction against the body's own liver, HDV infection, the most severe form of viral hepatitis, poses a particular challenge as it only occurs in combination with a hepatitis B infection.Our event brings together leading experts to discuss the latest findings on diagnostics, disease management and innovative therapeutic approaches for these rare but serious liver diseases. Dear colleagues, we are very pleased to invite you again this year to our current continuing education program for Complementary Medicine in Oncology 2025.

We begin the curriculum on February 19th with Dr. Ali Behzad and his lecture on resources and uncertainties in the online presentations of complementary medicine. This lecture was originally planned for September 2024 and had to be rescheduled. In May, Prof. Dr. Reinhard Saller will give a presentation on the current state of research on milk thistle, with a focus on its use in the context of malignant diseases. This will be followed in September by PD Dr. med. Christian Kessler, who will explain the scientific background for the use of medicinal mushrooms. In November, Prof. Dr. Diana Steinmann will conclude the program with a presentation on the use of complementary medicine alongside radiotherapy.

The Freiburg Interdisciplinary Oncology Colloquium (FIOK) is a regularly held event series dedicated to the interdisciplinary exchange of current developments in oncology. The goal is to provide physicians and specialists from various disciplines with a platform to discuss new scientific findings, therapeutic approaches, and clinical experiences and to learn from each other. Close collaboration between different disciplines promotes holistic and modern patient care.

At this year's meeting of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) in Barcelona, numerous studies on systemic therapy for thoracic, gastrointestinal, and urogenital tumors, as well as breast cancer, will be presented, which will change and improve the treatment of these diseases.

The new data will be presented and discussed during this virtual symposium.

Genetic and rare liver diseases pose a particular challenge in hepatology. These diseases, such as Wilson's disease, alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency or progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis (PFIC), are often difficult to diagnose and require specialized treatment approaches. However, advances in genetic research and innovative therapy options offer new perspectives for patients. Our event brings experts together to discuss current developments, diagnostic options and future-oriented treatments - with the aim of improving the care and quality of life of those affected.

The Institute for Occupational, Social, and Environmental Medicine at the LMU Medical Center, together with the Association of German Company and Factory Doctors, Southern Bavaria, is organizing the lecture series "Occupational Medicine Colloquia."

In October 2025, Prof. Martin Halle from the Chair and Polyclinic for Preventive Sports Medicine and Sports Cardiology at the University Hospital Rechts der Isar (Munich) will speak on the topic of "Integration of Sports Activities into Everyday Life."
